People who have just a smidgen of knowledge of SEO (search engine optimisation) have long debunked the assumption that the META KEYWORDS tag offers any value to search engine rankings. In the olden days this wasn’t the case, but now Google has officially announced that it no longer uses the content of the keywords tag when evaluating how a webpage should rank.
Should you even bother having a keywords tag? Probably not. The tag must be close to being completely redundant as all of the major search engines consider many other factors before the keywords tag – title tag, meta description, page content, anchor text, filenames and probably even the humble alt tag are almost certainly given preference over the keywords tag.
