Google AdSense – officially fontastic!

by Stephen on February 23, 2009

google-adsenseHot on the heels of the increase in channels in some Google AdSense accounts comes another new feature, this one allows webmasters and bloggers to specify a particular font for a particular advert.

There are three fonts to choose from – Arial, Verdana and Times New Roman – and your choice can be applied to an individual ad unit or,  by setting your chosen font as the “account default”, to all ad units in your account.

It makes sense to set the “account default” to whichever font you prefer (mine is Verdana). Experiments can be undertaken for individual ad units by overriding the default font in the Manage Ads > Edit AdSense unit tab.

It is only possible to choose a font for Ad Units. Any Link Units you use will retain the standard AdSense font family.

At the time of writing this there still seems to be a few teething problems. As I mentioned earlier in the post I have set my default font to Verdana, but I have noticed that some of the AdSense units I use are still using the Arial font.

I have had a closer look at the settings for some of my ad units and it transpires that the default setting has not been carried across to every unit. It doesn’t look like this is affecting many units, but there are one or two that have the “Standard AdSense font family” still selected. To fix this I have to select “Account default” from the drop down menu.
