Google Chrome open source browser released today

by Stephen on September 2, 2008

Google Chrome is the name of the new open source browser being released by Google today, Tuesday 2nd September, at least that is what is being said on the official Google blog.

The new browser has been put together using components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox and is being released because “we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web” and will follow the Google style of being “streamlined and simple”.

Google Chrome will be released across 100 countries today for public beta testing on the Windows platform, whilst work on the Mac and Linux versions are still in development.

There is no download link available at this time (7.01am in the UK), but I must admit I am waiting with baited breath. Firefox has become a chore and IE is only used for sites that don’t work in Firefox and compatability tests. It is going to be interesting to see what Google has come up with.

I will download and install this browser to see it better than FireFox or not.
