Google rolling out new real-time search feature

by Stephen on December 8, 2009

Google is in the process of rolling out it’s new real-time search feature; an enhancement it has been trying to incorporate for some time.

The “latest results” window appears on the search results page and includes results from Twitter and other pages the Googlebot has indexed within the past few minutes. This feature is not yet available globally, I am in the UK, which is a place where this feature has not yet been enabled, but it is still possible to check it out by visiting the Google Trends site and clicking on one of the hot topics.

To see another dimension of this feature enter your own phrase in the “More hot topics” box at Google Trends to see even more results from Twitter and watch the results update themselves as more tweets are sent into the Twittersphere. I tested this by sending my own tweet and watching the timeline. It took less than one minute for my tweet to appear on the results page.

This is an exciting development in the world of search and I am looking forward to seeing how it is incorporated into the global search engines.
