Problem Solved – tradesmen directory and review website

by Stephen on August 29, 2008

Problem Solved is a website that offers tradesmen the chance to advertise their business and for consumers to find out about a business before employing its services.

The idea is simple (business provides service, customer writes review and rates the service provided) and helps resolve the age old problem of finding a builder, plumber or electrician, for example, who is reliable. Simply looking in the usual directories or the classified ads of your local newspaper will not tell you what other people think of the services provided by a tradesmen, but Problem Solved does.

The difficult part of this equation is getting customers to write a review. The chances are that most customers will not come across this website, let alone write a review, unless you, the businessman, encourage your customers to do so.

From a personal point of view, I would be more than happy to write a review for a company that provides me with an excellent service.

I have recently used a double glazing repair company called Steamy Windows (based in Bolton) and have written a review on Problem Solved about the service provided. The business owner encouraged me to do so by sending me a polite email with a link to their Problem Solved page. A couple of clicks and a few keystrokes later and the review was live on the Problem Solved website (and there is no need for the reviewer to register).

For Problem Solved to achieve its full potential it requires a lot of input from customers and some proactive encouragement from traders. If this doesn’t happen then Problem Solved will become just another directory, albeit a very swish one. Which would be a shame.
